Nelson Sauvin hops originated at HortResearch and launched in 2000. Breeders crossed New Zealand Smoothcone with a New Zealand male to create this distinctive variety.
Its distinct gooseberry aroma is a descriptor often associated with the Sauvignon Blanc grape – hence the name Nelson Sauvin.
