| Challenger hops were introduced by Wye College in 1972. Bred from two trial varieties, Challenger boasts an impressive pedigree, with Northern Brewer as its grandmother and Northdown as its Aunt . The variety offers an excellent balance of alpha acids and aroma, making it a versatile choice for brewers. Used as a main copper hop, Challenger delivers a refreshing, full-bodied bitterness with a rounded finish. This creates an excellent foundation for late hop additions. Added later in the brewing process, Challenger contributes crisp fruit character that works particularly well in bitters and pale ales.
